Brain plasticity and Alexander Technique
In his writings and practice, F. M. Alexander drew heavily on the work of Sherrington and other scientists studying the nervous system. At that time, brain plasticity was accepted only in children. There has since been a paradigm shift (Kuhn 1962) in neuroscience. Brain plasticity across all ages, not just early childhood, is now accepted. Teachers of Alexander Technique find this exciting as their practice presumes such plasticity.
The Experience of Alexander Technique in Student Clinic
In 2012, under my guidance, trainees and recent graduates at the School for FM Alexander Studies in Melbourne researched the experience of students who participate in Student Clinic. Their project was for their Advanced Diploma in Alexander Technique Teaching. Answers were sought to questions about lesson effectiveness, changes experienced, understanding, and application in everyday life.
